Battle of Prospero (M42)

The Battle of Prospero (M42) was a conflict between the Space Wolves and the Thousand Sons on the ruins of Prospero after the first phase of the Indomitus Crusade. Since the translation of Sortiarius into realspace above the world, Prospero had become a hub of warp activity. Great Wolf Logan Grimnar dispatched Njal Stormcaller, Arjac Rockfist and a Space Wolves force to investigate; Stormcaller had been scanning the Warp for Leman Russ and had instead sensed a matter of importance on Prospero. On the surface the Wolves encountered Thousand Sons cultists and discovered remnants of the Heresy-era 13th Great Company under Bulveye trapped in a network of portals. Njal rescued some two hundred of those warriors, complete with Heresy-era armour, weapons and vehicles. Magnus the Red and the Thousand Sons then appeared in strength, mustering at the Pyramid of Photep in Tizca for a ritual by which Magnus intended to secure the portals and summon an army of daemons into the Materium. The Wolves escaped only when Lukas the Trickster delayed Magnus by offering him a supposed spell of unlocking needed for the portal network, which proved to be a useless piece of paper. While Magnus howled in fury, Lukas and the last escapees under Arjac Rockfist fled through a portal. In orbit, Njal Stormcaller ordered the Space Wolves fleet to bombard Prospero to prevent the ritual from coming to fruition.
