Battle of Sangua Terra
The Battle of Sangua Terra was fought on Sangua Terra, a world of the Nachmund system, for control of a promethium hub guarding the Nachmund Gate. The engagement belongs to the wider Nachmund campaign, waged in the years after the opening of the Cicatrix Maledictum split the galaxy and left the Nachmund Gate as one of the few stable crossings between Imperium Sanctus and Imperium Nihilus. Sangua Terra’s refineries, later catalogued under the designation prom-B, supplied fuel and matériel to fleets holding the gate open, making the world a target whose loss or defence carried consequences beyond its own skies. Accounts of the battle describe Imperial garrison forces, reinforced by elements drawn into the Nachmund theatre, moving to hold the refinery complex against a sustained assault by the forces of Chaos active in the region, among them warbands associated with the Thousand Sons. The fighting is recorded as centring on the promethium works themselves, with control of the hub passing between attacker and defender as reinforcement and counter-attack determined the shape of the wider Nachmund front. Precise troop strengths and the full order of battle are not consistently attested, and later tradition holds that the engagement was one of several fought in parallel across the system rather than a single decisive clash. In its aftermath, Sangua Terra remained bound to the fortunes of the Nachmund Gate, its promethium output continuing to sustain Imperial operations along that crossing into the Imperium Nihilus. The battle is remembered chiefly as a supporting action within the larger Nachmund campaign, its contemporaries being the fleets, garrisons, and warbands contesting the gate itself, and its significance resting on the world’s continued role as an anchor point in the defence of that vital passage.
