Sangua Terra

Sangua Terra is an Imperial hive world in the Nachmund Gauntlet and the keystone of the Sanctus Wall. Its strategic value is tied to its blackstone, which, as at Vigilus, is recorded as helping to hold the Nachmund Gauntlet open. That role places the world within the wider struggle over the Nachmund corridor, the warp-route on which the Imperium’s movements in this sector depend in the era of the Great Rift.

The Great Rift scarred the planet’s equator, producing the feature known as the Flare Scar. In the aftermath, Haarken Worldclaimer captured the capital, Urbanosprawl Alpha. The loss of the capital is the principal recorded reverse of the campaign, and it left the planet divided between the territory taken by the invaders and the districts that remained under Imperial control. Accounts of the fighting are compressed in the surviving record, and the precise sequence of engagements after the fall of Urbanosprawl Alpha is not set out in detail.

On the Orrery map, Sangua Terra is anchored at Nachmund, and on the timeline it belongs to the Nachmund corridor of the Rift era. It is best read alongside Vigilus, the better-documented world where blackstone plays a comparable part in the Gauntlet, and alongside the Sanctus Wall, of which Sangua Terra forms the central point. Haarken Worldclaimer is the principal contemporary attached to the world’s fall, and Canoness Junith Eruita is the principal figure on the Imperial side.

Sangua Terra remains the keystone of the Sanctus Wall, though the world is heavily damaged. Canoness Junith Eruita continues to defend the territory that remains under Imperial control. The world’s present status is therefore contested rather than lost: the capital is held by the invaders, and the surviving Imperial holdings continue to anchor the defensive line.
