Battle of Skemarchus
The Battle of Skemarchus was fought in M41 to recapture the Imperial manufactorium city of Skemarchus from a large Ork army whose Meks were looting its resources to build war machines. The world on which the city stands is not named. An Ultramarines strike force of 3rd Company assets and a squad of Sternguard Veterans, led by the young Chaplain Ortan Cassius, spearheaded the assault from Stormraven gunships to retake the port and its manufactoria as a bridgehead for the Astra Militarum. Cassius pressed an aggressive advance over the reservations of Sergeant Tatianus and the Sternguard until the Orks unleashed a newly built Gargant. Caught by its cannon fire, Cassius was pinned beneath fallen rubble. Vael Donatus detonated an Ork ammunition dump with a single bolt shell; the ground collapsed and the Gargant plunged into the lava rivers beneath the city, allowing the Ultramarines to rally and complete their mission.
