Death Oath of Uriel Ventris

The Death Oath of Uriel Ventris followed the Battle of Tarsis Ultra, when Sergeant Learchus Abantes reported that Captain Ventris and Sergeant Pasanius Lysane had breached the Codex Astartes by leaving the Fourth Company to board a hive ship with a Deathwatch kill-team. Before a Chapter council in the Fortress of Hera on Macragge, and on discreet counsel from Marneus Calgar passed through First Captain Agemman, the two waived their right to defend themselves so that their example would not unmake Chapter discipline. They were spared death and bound instead to a Death Oath: stripped of Ultramarines marks, they were to seek and destroy the Daemonculaba foreseen by Chief Librarian Varro Tigurius. They left Macragge on the March of Shame aboard a vessel carrying the Macragge 808th toward the Segmentum Obscurus, and from that exile came the wars on Medrengard and Salinas that preceded their return.
