Defence of Mezoa

The Defence of Mezoa was a major engagement of the Horus Heresy, fought to hold the forge world of Mezoa against besieging Traitor forces. As one of the Imperium’s productive centres, Mezoa’s extensive forge complexes and munition works made the world a prize whose loss or preservation carried consequences well beyond its own system. The fighting bore the character typical of forge world campaigns of the era: orbital contest for control of the shipyards and void docks, followed by protracted ground and manufactory-level combat as attackers sought to seize production capacity largely intact rather than raze it. Loyalist garrison forces, drawing on local Mechanicum elements and planetary defence formations, organised the world’s works into a fortified network, trading ground reluctantly to deny the invaders swift and undamaged control of the forges. The siege unfolded amid the wider collapse of Imperial cohesion that marked the Heresy’s middle years, as the warring factions raced to secure or deny each other the industrial base needed to sustain fleets and armies across a fracturing galaxy. Mezoa’s ordeal stands as one of the numerous forge world defences of the period, its course and outcome bound up in the broader struggle for material supremacy between the Emperor’s loyal servants and the forces of Horus.
