Destruction of Nuceria

The Destruction of Nuceria was the Passage of the Angels devastation of Nuceria, the adoptive world of the primarch Angron, carried out by Lion El’Jonson’s Dark Angels during the later Horus Heresy. Nuceria had been the gladiatorial world on which Angron led the failed slave rising of the Eaters of Cities before the Emperor took him; in the Heresy it remained bound to the World Eaters’ legend and to Traitor power in the region. Within the Passage of the Angels, dated about 012–013.M31, the Lion prosecuted a campaign of revenge and denial across the southern Imperium, breaking worlds rather than reclaiming them so that Horus could not draw on their strength against Terra. Nuceria is named among the worlds destroyed in that crusade, together with the legion homeworlds Chemos and Barbarus. The killing of Angron’s adoptive world was both a material blow and a deliberate stroke against the XII Legion’s past. The wider Passage left Carrion Realms in its wake and drew later reinforcement from Leman Russ and a limited Raven Guard contingent at Deliverance. Nuceria’s ruin belongs to that same theatre of extermination, prosecuted under the Lion’s command before the Dark Angels at last turned toward Terra.
