Discovery of Angron on Nuceria

The Discovery of Angron on Nuceria was the reunion of the Emperor of Mankind with the primarch of the XII Legion on the Civilised World that had raised him as a slave. Angron’s gestation capsule had come down among the icy mountains of Nuceria; after surviving an early attack by xenos, he was taken by High-Rider slavers, cast into the acid pits and arenas of Desh’ea, and named Angron-Thal’kr. The Butcher’s Nails were driven into his skull as punishment for refusing to kill the older gladiator Oenomaus, whom he then slew in a frenzy. He later led a revolt of the Eaters of Cities into the mountains, defeating army after army until seven well-equipped hosts surrounded his starving band. The Emperor’s fleet arrived in orbit. The Emperor teleported to Angron’s ridge with Custodes, offered him a Legion and a place in the Great Crusade, and was refused: Angron chose to die with his comrades. Reluctantly the Emperor withdrew, then teleported Angron alone aboard the fleet as the High-Riders annihilated the rebels below. Angron killed a Custodian in rage before the Emperor bound him and delivered him to the War Hounds, the XII Legion that would become the World Eaters under his command. The discovery thus joins Nuceria’s arena culture and the unfinished slave war to the Legion’s rebirth under a primarch who never forgave the manner of his taking. Later returns to Nuceria in the Shadow Crusade, and the separate Passage of the Angels destruction of the world by Lion El’Jonson, stand as later chapters of the same homeworld’s fate.
