Discovery of Fulgrim

The Discovery of Fulgrim is the arrival of the primarch Fulgrim, gene-father of the Emperor’s Children, upon the mining world of Chemos, and his subsequent reunion with the Emperor of Mankind. Like the other primarchs, Fulgrim had been taken from Terra and cast onto a distant world; the date of his recovery is unknown, though a starship built for the primarch of the III Legion is recorded as completed about 160 years before the Horus Heresy began. Accounts of his coming to Chemos differ. One holds that he crashed onto the planet and was taken in by the Caretakers, the police-soldiers of its fortress-factories. Another records that three labourers, Tullea, Corrin and Sullax, sent to investigate a meteorite impact, found a shifting mass of light that took the form of an infant; Tullea shot Sullax, who wished to kill the child, and Corrin named him Fulgrim after the water-bringer of Chemos’s creation myth, because a stream of pure water had formed where he landed. He rose from factory worker to an executive of the fortress-factory of Callax by the age of fifteen, restored Chemos’s exhausted industry, and within fifty years of his arrival was its sole leader. When the Emperor’s dropships landed at Callax, Fulgrim ordered the Caretakers to stand down, received the Emperor, knelt and offered his sword, and swore to serve the Imperium. He then travelled to Terra to meet his Legion, of which only some two hundred Space Marines remained after an accident had destroyed most of its gene-seed; the Emperor named that Legion the Emperor’s Children.
