Chemos

Chemos was a mining world that Fulgrim rebuilt as the homeworld and seat of the Emperor’s Children Legion, destroyed near the end of the Horus Heresy. It lay beneath two dim stars and a shrouding nebula that left the world in near-permanent grey twilight. Before Fulgrim’s arrival, its people had already stripped recreation and comfort from daily life simply to secure enough food from the world’s exhausted seams, a hardship that shaped the discipline and austerity later prized by the Emperor’s Children.

After the primarch was found and reunited with his Legion during the Great Crusade, he rebuilt Chemos as its homeworld, replacing bare survival with a culture that prized perfection in art, war and self-mastery. The world became a proving ground for the Legion’s officer caste, and among those who rose to prominence there in this period were Fabius Bile, later the Legion’s chief Apothecary, the duellist Lucius, and the commander Julius Kaesoron.

Chemos stood apart from the fighting that consumed the Legion at Isstvan III and after, but it did not escape the Heresy’s reckoning. Near the war’s end, following Horus’s defeat at Terra, Lion El’Jonson led his Dark Angels alongside the Legio Custodes in a punitive strike that reduced Chemos to ruin, a reprisal against a Legion by then given wholly to Slaanesh and the pursuit of excess.

The Inquisition has held the ruins of Chemos under quarantine ever since, denying access to a world it treats as contaminated in more than the physical sense. Chemos is recorded accordingly as the site of Fulgrim’s reconstruction of his Legion, the training ground of several of its most notorious sons, and one of the last worlds punished directly for the Emperor’s Children’s fall.
