Discovery of Lorgar

Lorgar was found as an infant in a crashed gestation capsule on the desert world of Colchis by a band of nomadic outcasts known as the Declined, under their chieftain Fan Morgal. The tribe named the child Lorgar, meaning Rain-caller in their tongue, for the storm that was said to accompany his arrival. Seventeen days later the boy was taken by Kor Phaeron, a priest exiled from the ruling Covenant of Colchis, who slew Fan Morgal and the whole of his tribe so that no witness might reveal the child’s origin. Raised as Kor Phaeron’s disciple and subjected to his cruelty, Lorgar nonetheless outgrew his master in both learning and charisma, rising to become Archpriest and Bearer of the Word. He led the Schism Wars against the Covenant for some six years, capturing the capital Vharadesh, while the last stronghold of Gahevarla was said to have been parted by a miracle of storms wrought in his name; by the war’s end he ruled as lord of all Colchis. Less than a year after this victory, the Emperor of Mankind descended near a temple on Colchis accompanied by Magnus the Red and warriors of the Thousand Sons. Lorgar, who held that he had foreseen their coming in visions, knelt and swore fealty at once, and the Covenant’s faith was turned wholesale from its old gods to worship of the Emperor amid months of celebration across the world. The Emperor thereafter granted Lorgar command of the XVII Legion, first styled the Imperial Heralds and afterwards renamed the Word Bearers, and Colchis passed into the Imperium’s chronicles as the primarch’s homeworld.
