Discovery of Rogal Dorn

The discovery of Rogal Dorn was the reunion of the Emperor of Mankind with the primarch later given command of the Imperial Fists, the VII Legion of Space Marines. Cast from Terra as an infant, Dorn came to ground on Inwit, an ice world of hive cities and harsh clans in the Inwit Cluster. He was raised by an ice-caste of the House of Dorn; the clan patriarch became as a grandfather to him and taught him tactics and survival, and even after Dorn learned that he was not of the man’s blood he kept the grandfather’s fur-edged robe and slept with it on his bed. In time he became leader of his caste, then of Inwit, and then of the surrounding region, ruling the Inwit Cluster as Emperor of the House of Dorn. Intrigued by the enormous station Phalanx in orbit above Inwit, Dorn spent years restoring the vessel to working order. Some forty years after his grandfather’s death the Great Crusade reached the ice-hives. Dorn greeted the Emperor at the helm of the Phalanx and was the seventh primarch to be found. The Emperor welcomed him, returned the Phalanx to his care as the mobile fortress-monastery of the Imperial Fists, and gave him command of the VII Legion, whose warriors were his gene-sons. From Inwit the Legion took recruits and ships into the Great Crusade that followed. The world remained closely bound to Dorn’s name and to Imperial Fists recruitment long after he left for Terra, and it later endured the Traitor Siege of Inwit during the Horus Heresy while Dorn himself directed the defence of the Sol System from afar.
