Exterminatus of Rahe’s Paradise
The Exterminatus of Rahe’s Paradise was the destruction, in late M41, of a Blood Ravens recruiting world that had once been a Necron tomb world and later an Aeldari Exodite settlement. Roughly ten thousand years earlier the Farseer Lsathranil of Ulthwé had raised an artefact on the planet, Lsathranil’s Shield, whose illusion of a strong Aeldari psychic presence kept the Necrons below in slumber, and an unidentified Chapter of Space Marines had built a fortress there and agreed to stand vigil before abandoning the world. Gabriel Angelos came to Rahe’s Paradise with the Third Company to conduct the Blood Trials shortly after the Tartarus campaign. Farseer Macha of Biel-Tan, foreseeing the Shield’s failure, brought the Swordwind to the planet; Aeldari Rangers struck at the Chapter’s psykers and at psychic aspirants, and Macha explained to Angelos that their deaths were meant to protect the Shield. The two commanders agreed to work together, yet their forces still clashed, and the loss of an Aeldari Dragonship, with the spirit pool of the Dark Reaper aspect aboard, released a psychic cry that shattered the Shield and woke part of the Necron host and its lord. The awakened Necrons were defeated with the help of the rest of the Swordwind, but Angelos judged a world still riddled with sleeping Necrons too dangerous to leave. He ordered its Exterminatus, which turned Rahe’s Paradise inside out, and departed for Lorn V with a last group of aspirants, among them the psyker Varjak, to rebuild his depleted company.
