The Fall of Malvolion refers to the destruction or subjugation of the Imperial world of Malvolion by a Tyranid hive fleet during the 41st Millennium. It is remembered as one of a great many such losses recorded along the leading edges of Tyranid incursion into Imperial space, in which an outlying world’s defences were overrun faster than reinforcement could reach it. Accounts of the campaign are fragmentary, consistent with the wider pattern by which the Imperium learns of a world’s fate only after the event, through distress astropathy, surviving refugee vessels, or its subsequent absence from Administratum tithe returns. What can be pieced together follows the familiar course of a Tyranid assault: outrider bio-ships and advance organisms preceding the main tendril of the hive fleet, planetary void defences and orbital assets engaged and worn down, and ground forces — typically Astra Militarum regiments supplemented by planetary defence formations — committed to a defence that consumed the world’s resources before being overwhelmed.
