Horus discovered on Cthonia
The discovery of Horus on Cthonia was the finding of Horus on a mined-out gang world near Terra. Cthonia is the place with which his discovery is associated, and it later served as a recruiting ground for his Legion. Cthonia was an exhausted mining world whose population lived in its tunnels and organised itself into gangs. The surviving account of the event is limited to the fact that Horus was found on the planet. The Luna Wolves, the Legion later renamed the Sons of Horus, subsequently drew recruits from these tunnels. The discovery gave Cthonia its standing, alongside its proximity to Terra and its role as a source of recruits for the Luna Wolves and the Sons of Horus. During the Horus Heresy, the Imperial Fists under Rogal Dorn maintained a blockade of the planet on its Terra-facing side, and some of its gangs fought for the loyalist cause before the end. The Dark Angels under Lion El’Jonson destroyed the planet in 014.M31, that is, in year 014 of the thirty-first millennium. Its destruction ended Cthonia’s role as a recruiting ground and removed the planet from the Imperium’s territory.
