Kharaatan Campaign
The Kharaatan Campaign was a Great Crusade campaign in which the Salamanders under Vulkan and the Night Lords under Konrad Curze conquered Kharaatan. The world was designated One-Five-Four-Six by the Administratum. During the Age of Strife the planet’s human population had come to worship a coven of Eldar witch-lords through psychic suggestion, and the world resisted the Imperium when the Great Crusade arrived. The two Legions were supported by Titans of the Legio Ignis and several Imperial Army regiments. During the campaign the Night Lords butchered the population of Khar-tann City to spread fear among the rest of the world. Vulkan was angered by the act and nearly came to blows with Curze, yet the rest of the planet then surrendered without further bloodshed. The surviving population was herded into camps that separated suspected xenos collaborators from non-collaborators. The Eldar witch-lords escaped and attacked the Imperial forces until all of them had been killed; after the remembrancer Seriph died in that fighting, Vulkan slew the last of the witch-lords, a child who was attempting to surrender. After the campaign Vulkan reported Curze’s conduct to the Warmaster Horus and to Rogal Dorn. The killing of the Eldar child is recorded as troubling Vulkan for years afterwards.
