Liberation of Sanctus Lys

The Liberation of Sanctus Lys was an episode of the Palatine Crusade in which the crusade turned aside, at Celestine’s insistence, to take a small backwater shrine world of the Palatine Sector. The crusade’s commander, Ansgar, had expected the campaign to conclude at the sector’s capital world. Unknown to all but Celestine, Sanctus Lys held a shrine once visited in secret by Saint Katherine of the Order of the Fiery Heart shortly before that saint’s death. Her followers cleared a broken altar from the shrine’s ruins, revealing a hidden crypt, which Celestine entered alone, forbidding any to follow. She emerged at first light clad in the golden Armour of Saint Katherine and bearing the Ardent Blade, wreathed in petals; some accounts add a column of radiance attended by cherubs and doves. Ansgar and a conclave of Thorian priests thereafter declared her a Living Saint, and she was hailed as the Hieromartyr of the Palatine Crusade. She went on to sweep through the Palatine Sector, reclaiming its worlds. The date is not recorded, though the shrine is said to have been opened centuries after Saint Katherine’s own time.
