Magdelon Incursion

The Magdelon Incursion began in 712.M41 when the Bleak Brotherhood, a warband of Chaos Space Marines, descended upon the Crystal City of Magdelon. The Brotherhood’s assault was undertaken in fulfilment of a bargain struck with entities of the warp, the despoiling of the crystal settlement serving as an offering intended to secure the daemons’ favour. The scale and violence of the attack drew the notice of Imperial forces in the system, and a company of Space Wolves under Ragnar was committed to the world’s defence. The fighting through Magdelon’s crystalline districts was sustained and costly, the Bleak Brotherhood contesting every approach to the Crystal City with the fanaticism typical of a warband bound by dark pact. Ragnar’s Space Wolves pressed the attack regardless, breaking the Brotherhood’s cohesion street by street until the warband’s remaining strength could no longer hold the city. The battle’s resolution did not end the danger it had set in motion. The bloodshed inflicted upon Magdelon, far from being wasted by the Brotherhood’s defeat, had already satisfied the terms of the pact struck with the warp entities: the violence itself was the offering, and its scale was sufficient to please the powers the Brotherhood had courted. In the engagement’s aftermath, a major daemonic incursion broke across the system, a direct consequence of the battle’s intensity rather than of any deliberate ritual completed by the defeated warband. Ragnar’s Space Wolves, having already broken the Bleak Brotherhood’s assault on the Crystal City, were accordingly obliged to turn their strength against the incursion that followed, fighting a second engagement against the daemonic forces drawn to Magdelon by the battle just concluded. The surviving remnants of the Bleak Brotherhood, unable to withstand a fight on two fronts, abandoned the field and withdrew to Lycanthos Secundus, leaving the Space Wolves to contain the incursion and secure what remained of the Crystal City. Magdelon survived the engagement as an Imperial world, its defence counted among the notable actions of Ragnar’s early command.
