Masali campaign

The Masali campaign was an Ultramarines action on Masali, an agri-world of Ultramar and one of its Three Planets, against an Eldar raiding force that had begun systematically killing every human it came across. No date is recorded for it. Captain Cato Sicarius arrived with a task force built around his 2nd Company and a number of the Chapter’s Reserve Companies. Attacked from all sides by the Eldar pirates, he rallied and directed his forces from a Land Raider Prometheus, using it as an armoured, mobile headquarters, and one account credits him with unexpected tactics employing a score of these vehicles. His forces surrounded the rampaging Eldar and destroyed them all, showing them the same mercy they had shown the world’s population. The quad-mounted heavy bolters of his command vehicle took such a toll that Sicarius and the vehicle were both awarded the Marksman’s Honour on their return to Macragge, and the artificers of the Macragge forges remember the campaign as the action that demonstrated the Prometheus pattern’s accuracy. One account places Sicarius’s first action as Captain of the 2nd Company in the Dantaro campaign, at whose outset he was awarded an Aquila honour badge, and sets the fighting on Masali beside it; whether the two were a single campaign is not stated.
