Massacre of Battlefleet Aquinas

The Massacre of Battlefleet Aquinas was the destruction of an Imperial battlefleet by the Red Corsairs while it was still mustering above the world of Oldarian, late in the forty-first millennium. Huron Blackheart learned of the muster from a warp-seer, gathered his entire fleet and left the warp in the empty gulf of interstellar space far from Oldarian so that his arrival would not alert the Imperial forces, and blood sacrifices brought him there before the muster began. When the Imperial ships hung at anchor above the planet, the Red Corsairs opened fire and ten warships died in the first moments. Huron led the second wave in person: the strike cruiser Wolf of Fenris drove into the burning core of the fleet and launched boarding torpedoes into the battleship Chosen of Thor, and a hundred Red Corsairs with Huron at their head cut their way to its reactors and quenched them. The rest of the battlefleet was torn apart, though some ships were allowed to flee, carrying Huron’s message: “Your Empire is dead.”
