Overfiend of Octarius
The Overfiend of Octarius was the Ork paramount warlord who united the Octarius sector’s Waaagh!s against Tyranid invasion in the 41st Millennium. The title is recorded as belonging to the warboss who rose above rival Ork leaders in the Octarius region, gathering warbands that would otherwise have fought one another. Its cause lay in the arrival of Tyranid swarms, generally associated with splinters of Hive Fleet Leviathan, in a region already crowded with Ork empires. Accounts differ on the precise chronology of the Overfiend’s ascent, but the consolidation is placed in the closing centuries of the 41st Millennium, within the wider Octarius War. The course of the conflict is one of attrition between two species that consume worlds and both regenerate through numbers. Ork forces under the Overfiend met the Tyranid advance with massed assaults, and the fighting drew in whole worlds of the sector as battlefields. Imperial presence in the region is recorded as limited, and much of the sector was isolated by warp disturbances, so the Imperium acted chiefly as an observer rather than a principal. The Overfiend’s authority rested on the Orks’ tendency to gather behind the strongest leader, so each victory swelled the horde that served him. This pattern kept the war at a scale that neither side could easily bring to a decisive close. The consequences remain unresolved. The Octarius War is held to have diverted Tyranid biomass and Ork strength into a prolonged contest, a factor later Imperial observers regard as a partial, unintended relief elsewhere, while Ork spores and displaced warbands continue to carry the danger outward.
