Palatine Crusade
The Palatine Crusade was an Imperial campaign to free the worlds of the Palatine Sector from secessionist rebels, the schismatics of what is also recorded as the Palatine Schism. It was commanded by Ansgar, whose title is given variously as Lord, Lord Militant and Inquisitor Lord, and it drew Orders Militant of the Adepta Sororitas, including Sisters Repentia of the Order of Our Martyred Lady, into prolonged fighting against the rebel worlds. The war ground to a stalemate on Eurytion, where a Sister Repentia named Celestine fell in the first wave against the capital’s defences, was found alive and unwounded among the dead, and led the assault that took the city the next day. She became the crusade’s figurehead. Ansgar expected the campaign to end at the sector’s capital world, but at Celestine’s insistence the crusade first took the shrine world of Sanctus Lys, where she recovered the Armour of Saint Katherine and the Ardent Blade and was declared a Living Saint by Ansgar and a conclave of Thorian priests. Hailed as the Hieromartyr of the Palatine Crusade, Celestine then led the reclamation of the rest of the Palatine Sector. The crusade’s dates are not recorded; the shrine on Sanctus Lys is said to have been opened centuries after Saint Katherine’s own time.
