Paramar Wars
The Paramar Wars were a series of clashes fought across the Paramar system during the Horus Heresy between Traitor and Loyalist forces. Occurring in the wake of the opening atrocities of the rebellion, the fighting drew in scattered Loyalist remnants seeking refuge or passage through the system, and Traitor formations tasked with their pursuit and destruction. The wars were notable less for large-scale fleet or army actions than for protracted, attritional combat waged across the system’s worlds and their subterranean and urban environs. Much of the conflict took the character of a guerrilla campaign, as isolated Loyalist survivors evaded hunting parties across hostile terrain, drawing on local resistance and improvised defences to prolong their struggle. Traitor forces, determined to prevent the escape or resupply of these remnants, committed substantial numbers of troops and warships to sealing the system and rooting out pockets of defiance, extending the fighting over an extended period rather than resolving it in a single decisive engagement. As with many such secondary theatres of the Horus Heresy, the Paramar Wars drew away Traitor resources that might otherwise have been directed toward the wider campaign, while inflicting lasting devastation upon the system itself. The conflict left Paramar marked by the fighting long after the Heresy’s principal battles had moved elsewhere, and it is remembered as one of the more protracted system-level struggles of the era.
