Red Tithe of Tranquility

The Red Tithe of Tranquility was the Carcharodons’ post-Badab War descent on the Tranquility System in the Endymion Cluster of the Maelstrom Zone, after the Chapter had aided the Fire Angels in returning the Cluster to compliance. With Fire Angels consent, the Carcharodon fleet entered the system that had long served the Mantis Warriors as a recruiting ground. Hidden Mantis Warriors fortresses were ransacked of supplies and war materiel. A whole generation of the system’s young men was taken to replace losses suffered in the Badab War, forced to fight one another to the death for a place among the Carcharodons’ ranks. The feudal desert world Tranquility II stands for that recruiting well in Imperial Armour accounts of the system. When the tithe was complete the Carcharodon fleet disappeared, apparently returning to the dark void above the galactic plane. The action sealed the Chapter’s dark legend in the Endymion Cluster and left the Mantis Warriors without the fortresses and levies they had held before the war. Shade Lord Tyberos commanded the Chapter throughout; the Nicor remained the fleet’s seat of command.
