Sack of Maeleum

The Sack of Maeleum was the plundering of the daemon world Maeleum, held by the Sons of Horus after the Horus Heresy as the resting place of a vast Monument raised around the preserved corpse of Horus Lupercal. The action belongs to the Legion Wars of the early to mid-thirty-first millennium within the Eye of Terror, when Traitor Legions turned upon one another after the failure of the Siege of Terra. During that fighting Fabius Bile of the Emperor’s Children, aided by the Sons of Horus defector Skalagrim Phar, obtained access to the Monument and removed Horus’s corpse. Bile intended the remains for his cloning work at Canticle City on Harmony. The theft was regarded as a sacrilege by those of the XVI Legion who had kept the body as a relic of their Warmaster; the corpse was later used in attempts to raise a clone of Horus, until Abaddon’s destruction of Canticle City ended that experiment. Maeleum itself is remembered as a rust-graveyard world of the Eye, abandoned or contested after the Legion Wars as the Sons of Horus remade themselves as the Black Legion under Abaddon.
