Siege of the Rock

The Siege of the Rock was Marbas’s attack on the Dark Angels’ fortress-monastery shortly after the Great Rift. Fighting was on the Rock, across its docks, grand halls, and sub-levels. It was not fought on the destroyed world of Caliban, and it is not Vashtorr’s later assault. No year number is recorded. Marbas nearly crushed Grand Master Sammael. Deathwing Grand Master Belial cut off one of the daemon prince’s hands with the Sword of Silence. Marbas then escaped into the warp, and the daemon army followed. Supreme Grand Master Azrael went to a hidden dungeon cell that had held Luther and found him gone. Azrael suspected that the invasion had been a diversion to free Luther. The Wardens in White were slain defending the Chamber of Passageways, and no invaders passed them. Chaos artefacts were stolen from the vaults, including Malaghurst’s Bane, the Goblet of Arkitonh, the Illustraean Veil, and the Dirge of Lusiann. A later strike force, including Interrogator-Chaplain Palaliah and Codicier Yehoel, was sent to recover or destroy them. Azrael is not recorded as having led that later force.
