Stand at Yarant
The Stand at Yarant was a large-scale battle of the Horus Heresy in which Space Wolves forces resisted a traitor assault on the Yarant system. It forms part of the wider Space Wolves theatre of the galactic civil war that divided the Space Marine Legions of the Great Crusade, and is reckoned among the more protracted engagements fought by the Legion during that period. Accounts of the stand emphasise a defensive action fought against sustained pressure, with Space Wolves companies committed to holding ground at Yarant rather than withdrawing before superior or persistent enemy forces. The engagement is characteristic of the Legion’s reputation for tenacity and close-quarters resilience, qualities long associated with its warriors and their primarch, Leman Russ. The precise composition of the opposing forces and the tactical circumstances that necessitated the stand are not fully established. The eventual outcome and casualties of the Stand at Yarant are not conclusively recorded, and its place within the broader chronology of the Horus Heresy remains a matter of limited documentation.
