Tyranid invasion of Vior’los

The Tyranid invasion of Vior’los was a Tyranid attack on the Farsight Enclaves in 997.M41, centred on Vior’los, that ended Commander Farsight’s exile. Tyranids are a devouring alien swarm, and the attack was made by a splinter fleet. Accounts differ on the fleet involved: one names Hive Fleet Kraken, and another a tendril of Hive Fleet Gorgon. Farsight had given up command after founding the Enclaves and lived in self-imposed exile in the wastes of Vior’los, leaving his battlesuit and the Dawn Blade in the Vascorian Colosseum, a war museum; Commander Arra’kon led the Enclaves’ military. After encountering Tyranids in the wastes, Farsight returned, reclaimed his battlesuit once O’Vesa recognised him, and rejoined the Eight, his council of senior commanders, then seven in number. One account records that Farsight led eighty Crisis battlesuit teams to drive the invaders back. In another, he was mortally wounded and carried to safety by Sub-Commander Torchstar, a defector from the T’au Empire who later became the eighth member of the Eight; the orbital command station, the Shas’ar’tol Metadisc, crashed during the fighting. Torchstar’s bond-mate Por’vre Rivertell betrayed them to the Ethereals, the T’au ruling caste, and Farsight was taken aboard the ship Hand of Aun’Va, sentenced to Malk’la, a ritual punishment, and made to fight a duel before Aun’Va, which he won with the help of the Ethereal Aun’shi; he was then allowed to return to Vior’los. The invasion ended when O’Vesa and an Earth caste team developed a genetic phage carried by volunteers in the Tyranids’ path; the organisms that consumed them spread it through the fleet. Vior’los was devastated, but the Enclaves survived. The M’yennan’ka Hunter Cadre was raised on Vior’los after the invasion.
