Harakoni Warhawks

The Harakoni Warhawks are drop-trooper regiments of the Astra Militarum raised on Harakon, a hive world, prized for grav-chute assaults from orbit. Within the wider Astra Militarum (the Imperium’s mass human armies, also called the Imperial Guard), the Warhawks serve as airborne shock troops, deploying directly into contested ground rather than as line infantry.

Harakon’s hives rise as towers of great height above deep mountain valleys, and its population lives under markedly reduced gravity. Harakoni civilians traditionally hunt vapourwyrms from grav-gliders in the valleys below the hives, a practice that leaves recruits fearless at altitude and skilled at reading air currents, aptitudes turned directly into military doctrine. Warhawk troopers descend from orbit by grav-chute from Valkyrie assault carriers, and field heavier support than most line regiments, with numerous heavy weapons platoons and special weapons squads alongside plasma guns, heavy bolters and folding-stock lasguns. Their black fatigues, tan carapace armour and rebreathers are recorded as the standard Harakoni uniform. The population speaks Konndar, a divergent dialect of Low Gothic, the Imperium’s common tongue, rich in aphorisms that outsiders often find opaque.

Individual Harakoni regiments have fought across widely separated fronts. In 812.M41 two battalions of the 32nd Harakoni Warhawks spearheaded the assault on Shardenus Prime during the Purge of the Contqual sub-sector, dropping behind the hive city’s walls alongside the Iron Hands Chapter’s Clan Raukaan to open a breach for the wider Imperial Guard advance; the 32nd’s commander, Colonel Yris Aikino, was killed after leading the first troops onto the walls. The 31st Harakoni Warhawks, the Helldivers, fought Tau Fire Caste cadres during the Fall of Medusa V in 999.M41. That same year, Harakoni elements helped clear Svenngard’s core islands of a daemonic incursion during the Siege of the Fenris System alongside the Space Wolves, Iron Hands and Ultramarines, and the 998th Harakoni Warhawks joined other Imperial Guard airborne regiments at the Battle of Extremis Six against Emperor’s Children warbands and the traitor Titan Legion Riotous Host, where Lucius the Eternal was sighted.

Other Harakoni regiments are recorded in the Octarius War and the Nachmund Rift War, though details of their roles are not well established, and the 73rd Harakoni Warhawks, which had absorbed survivors of the 181st Elysian Drop Troops, was wiped out during a drop onto the Ork-held world of Magdelene IX. The Warhawks have no single unifying commander or fixed order of battle; each numbered regiment is raised, deployed and, on occasion, destroyed independently, so their standing rests on the cumulative reputation of individual formations rather than one continuous regimental history.
