Harakon
Harakon is a low-gravity hive world whose spires rise high enough to breach the upper atmosphere. The reduced gravity allows its hive structures to climb far beyond the heights typical of such worlds elsewhere in the Imperium, and it is from these upper reaches that the planet’s best-known export, the Harakoni Warhawks, take their name and their manner of war.
The Harakoni Warhawks are raised from the hive spires and are recorded as deploying from them directly, descending from extreme altitude into battle rather than massing on open ground in the manner of most Astra Militarum infantry. This airborne tradition marks the regiment out among the many thousands raised across the Imperium, and it is the characteristic by which Harakon itself is chiefly remembered.
Life on Harakon is not confined to the spires. In the mountain passes beneath the hives, hunters pursue vapourwyrms on grav-gliders, a practice distinct from the regimented air-assault culture above and suggestive of a world whose population is shaped by altitude and open sky at every level, from the depths of the passes to the summits of the hive spires.
The Harakoni Warhawks appear in the accounts of Ciaphas Cain, though Cain himself is not native to Harakon and is recorded only as having served alongside or encountered the regiment rather than hailing from its ranks. Harakon’s own place within the Ultima Segmentum is noted in these accounts as no more than a low-confidence estimate, and should be treated as provisional rather than fixed.
