Kabal of the Broken Sigil

The Kabal of the Broken Sigil is a Drukhari kabal of Commorragh, the Dark City, known to the Imperium for its terror raids. A kabal is a martial faction of the Drukhari (the dark Aeldari of Commorragh) led by an Archon, and the Broken Sigil is counted among the major kabals of the city. Its allegiance is xenos. Its origin is recorded as reaching back to the Fall of the Aeldari, though no founding date is firmly established. The kabal takes its emblem from the ancient Aeldari glyph Drethuchii, loosely translated as the Shattering of Harmony, and is associated with the colour green.

The kabal is led by the Archon Xerathis, recorded as its overlord. Its doctrine centres on terror: kabalites are known to write threats across the sky, to bomb targets with hallucinogenic gas and to hijack communications channels, so that a population is frightened before the landing begins and the raiders may feed on that fear. Rival Archons are recorded as regarding Xerathis as predictable for this reliance. The kabal has also fostered many pacts with Mandrakes (shadow-dwelling xenos creatures), allowing it to field them in numbers. Recorded subdivisions include the Shard of the Twisted Visage and, within it, the Splinter of Rictus Immemorial, to which the kabalite warrior Olascyn Vongoliot belonged. The Razorwing jetfighter Solar Ghost is among its named vehicles.

Two campaigns are attested. In the Raid Against the Star Gods, the date of which is not recorded beyond the 41st Millennium, the kabal launched a large offensive against the Sautekh Dynasty, a Necron dynasty whose forces employed techno-arcane devices powered by enslaved C’tan. On each front the Broken Sigil is recorded as concentrating its effort on destroying the captive Star Gods before withdrawing. In 543.M41 the kabal began the Harvest of Chogros, a series of raids on the planet Chogros to seize its Ogryn natives for the arenas of Commorragh. Astra Militarum regiments from Catachan, Elysia and Katon intervened, the fighting grew into a planet-wide engagement, and the Imperial forces were defeated. The captured guardsmen were sold to the Wych Cults (arena-fighting fraternities of Commorragh) and made to fight the Ogryns they had been sent to defend.

The Broken Sigil is regarded as one of the most infamous Drukhari kabals within the Imperium. Conclaves of the Ordo Xenos (the Inquisition branch concerned with alien threats) and Deathwatch Kill-Teams are recorded as devoted to its destruction, and Xerathis is a priority target of the latter. He is said to answer by boasting of the value of Space Marines as slaves. The kabal’s raiding territory lies in the southern Ultima Segmentum, where it is currently engaged against the Necrons.
