Commorragh

Commorragh, the Dark City, is the webway capital of the drukhari, a conglomerate of stolen port-cities ruled through the kabals of Asdrubael Vect. It is not a planet and cannot be plotted as a globe in realspace, the material universe; stolen suns, taken along with the cities they once lit, illuminate its streets.

The city’s foundations date to the Fall, when the birth of Slaanesh tore open Khaine’s soul-gate and consumed the aeldari empire. Those ancestors who fled inward rather than outward, as the founders of the craftworlds did, colonised captured stretches of the webway and fortified them into Commorragh. Its population is bound into kabals, wych cults, and haemonculi covens, whose raiders strike into realspace against the Imperium, the craftworlds, and other galactic powers, taking slaves and, by tradition, staving off Slaanesh’s hunger for aeldari souls through cruelty and sensation.

Vect’s supremacy over the kabals dates from the period following the Fall, exercised chiefly through the Kabal of the Black Heart and enforced against rival archons who contest his throne from their own port-cities. The partial awakening of Ynnead later caused Khaine’s Gate to rupture in the event known as the Dysjunction, and the rupture plunged the city into civil war; accounts differ on how completely Vect’s authority survived the disjunction, and later tradition holds that his rule has since been repeatedly challenged from within.

Because Commorragh has no planetary orbit, Jambonium places a proxy marker in the Veiled Region so that the city can appear on a galactic map alongside the craftworlds and Imperial worlds its raiders touch. The Dark City’s standing as capital of the webway is recorded chiefly through this pattern of raid and retreat into realspace, rather than through any fixed position within it, and its present status remains that of a contested capital rather than a settled one.
