Vior’la

Vior’la is a sept of the T’au Empire, an arid binary-star world renowned as a stronghold of the Fire Caste and its most aggressive warriors.

Brought into the empire during the First Sphere Expansion, Vior’la lies among the major sept worlds, neighboured by Sa’cea, Arthas Moloch and Tau’n. Its name is rendered in the T’au tongue as "hot-blooded", a description its population embraces as a mark of pride. The world orbits a binary star, and each year it passes through the gap between the two suns, an event known as the Trial by Fire, during which plasma storms scour the surface and force the population to shelter behind protective domes.

Vior’la is best known for its Fire Caste academies, centred on Vior’la Prime, which are counted among the most respected in the T’au Empire. Warriors trained there favour high-speed, aggressive warfare, applying the Mont’ka strategy of the decisive strike with particular relish, and bringing the same forwardness to Kauyon ambush tactics. The sept’s Earth Caste has developed short-ranged, high-impact armaments, including the pulse carbine, the pulse blaster and the onager gauntlet, while its Water Caste diplomats are known as forthright, hard-bargaining negotiators.

The sept’s martial reputation has been tested directly. Around 600.M40, during a Trial by Fire, Vior’la was invaded by a large Ork fleet under Warboss Garskrak; its cities sealed behind their domes while Pathfinders drew the Ork hosts into the raging plasma storms, where the invaders were destroyed. At a later, undated point, Vior’la was assailed by World Eaters warbands of the Chaos Space Marines, whose fury began to infect the T’au defenders drawn into close combat; order was restored only when a council of Ethereals arrived to calm the Fire Warriors, allowing withdrawal into orbit before the attackers could complete the slaughter.

Vior’la is also recorded as the birth-sept of O’Shovah, the commander later known to the Imperium as Farsight, before his disappearance beyond the empire’s eastern frontier and the founding of the independent Farsight Enclaves. The sept’s academies and its association with this figure have reinforced its standing as the T’au Empire’s foremost source of aggressive, front-line Fire Caste doctrine.
