Vior’la

Vior’la is a binary-star world of the T’au empire’s Fire Caste, its name meaning ‘hot-blooded’ in reference to the plasma storms that scour its skies. One of the four founding septs, alongside T’au, Dal’yth and Sa’cea, it subjects its Fire Caste youths to the annual Trial by Fire, a rite of passage timed to the storms’ peak. Its academies are noted for producing aggressive Mont’ka cadres, formations trained for the doctrine of the killing blow rather than the patient Kauyon.

The sept’s martial temperament found its most consequential expression in Commander Farsight, who is recorded as a native son of Vior’la and whose battlefield aggression exemplified the world’s Mont’ka tradition. Farsight’s campaigns carried Tau arms beyond the bounds of the empire, and his eventual disappearance beyond the Eastern Fringe, followed by the rise of his breakaway Farsight Enclaves, is remembered on Vior’la as the extreme outcome of the very traits its academies cultivate.

The plasma storms that define Vior’la have also served the sept in its own defence. On one recorded occasion, Pathfinder teams drew an Ork invasion force into the height of the storms, where the greenskins burned in the plasma discharge rather than fall to Fire Warrior guns.

A later landing by the World Eaters met a similar failure, though by a different path: Fire Warrior discipline had begun to fracture under the Chaos Space Marines’ assault until Ethereals intervened, restoring order to the caste and enabling the invaders’ defeat. Together these episodes mark Vior’la as both a forge of Fire Caste officers and a world whose environment and caste hierarchy have twice turned foreign invasion to Tau advantage.
