Agripinaa

Agripinaa is the principal forge world of the Cadian Gate, an Adeptus Mechanicus world close to the Eye of Terror that long supplied arms to Cadia. It is styled the Orb of a Thousand Scars, a name that reflects its long exposure to attack from the Eye. As a forge world it is a centre of manufacture under the Cult Mechanicus, and its output was directed chiefly to the fortress world of Cadia and the regiments raised there.

The world’s strategic weight derives from its location. The Cadian Gate is the principal route between the Eye of Terror and the wider Imperium, and Agripinaa stood in the same region as the defences that Cadia anchored. Its forges therefore served as a supply base for the garrison of that frontier for millennia. The same proximity made it a target: accounts record that the Warpsmiths, the artificers of the Traitor Legions, regard the world as a kind of shop window for what a forge world can produce, and the World Eaters, the Death Guard and the Iron Warriors are each recorded as having attacked it. The dates and outcomes of these assaults are not consistently given, and accounts differ on their sequence.

Three agri-worlds, devoted to agriculture, are recorded as existing to feed the forge’s furnaces and workforce, which ties Agripinaa’s output to a small system of dependent worlds. After the fall of the Cadian Gate, which followed the Thirteenth Black Crusade and the destruction of Cadia in 999.M41, Agripinaa is recorded as having received Cadian refugees. Later tradition holds that these survivors were used as raw material for production, a treatment consistent with the Adeptus Mechanicus’s willingness to subordinate human labour to the needs of its forges.

On the Orrery map, Agripinaa is anchored as a Forge World in the Cadian Gate region, and it is best read alongside Cadia, the Eye of Terror and the Traitor Legions that have contested it. It remains the principal forge of the Cadian Gate in the current era. With Cadia lost, its role has shifted from supplying a fortress world to holding a forge on a frontier still exposed to repeated Chaos assault.
