Amadis

Amadis is an Imperial world whose liberation’s final battle is recorded, and whose segmentum is not. No sector or set of coordinates for the world is attested in surviving accounts, and Amadis is therefore best understood as unplaced within the wider Imperium rather than assigned a provisional location the record cannot support. What survives of Amadis centres on a single episode, by which the world has come to be known: the Liberation of Amadis, and in particular its final battle.

In that final battle, Imperial defenders were driven close to collapse by Chaos cultist artillery and repeated human-wave assaults. Among the units committed was the Procell 1st Irregulars, which the fighting all but destroyed; Regan Antigone was its only trooper to survive. Accounts of the battle hold that Cypher was present and rallied defenders who were being overwhelmed, steadying a defence that was close to breaking. No date is given for the battle, and no hive or wider campaign preceding it is recorded.

Antigone chose to keep Cypher’s presence secret, swearing never to reveal it, and took personal credit for rallying the defenders himself. He carried that oath for decades as he rose through the ranks to colonel. At a social function years later, he confided the truth to Tigrane, Master of the Dark Angels’ 6th Company. Tigrane judged mere association with Cypher to be treachery, declared Antigone a traitor on the spot, and executed him.

Beyond the final battle and its long aftermath, little else about Amadis is recorded, and the gaps are left as gaps rather than filled by conjecture: no date for the liberation, no named hive, no campaign preceding it. The world is remembered chiefly for that one defence, and for the costly, decades-long silence Antigone kept to protect the man who helped win it.
