Balthar

Balthar is a world in the Balthar System of the Caligari Sector, isolated by warpsurge for centuries and found by the Inquisition to be in open heresy. A warpsurge is a disturbance of the warp; in this case it severed the world’s contact with the wider Imperium for a prolonged period.

The Balthar System lies in the Tenebra Subsector of the Segmentum Tempestus, adjacent to Aphagia Minor, Argon Prime, Marax and Balthar’s Eye. During the period of isolation, the towns of Balthar fell into cult activity and depravity. The decline resulted from the severance of contact rather than from attack by Chaos fleets, and it took place while the wider Caligari Conclave was occupied with warpsurges elsewhere in the sector.

Inquisition reclaim teams of the Martyr era, sent to restore contact with the world, encountered this condition on their return. Balthar gives its name to the system and is recorded under it on the Caligari Sector chart.
