Beta Garmon

Beta Garmon is a star system in the Segmentum Solar, site of a major Horus Heresy campaign fought shortly before the Siege of Terra. Its worlds lay athwart one of the approaches to the Sol System, giving the system a strategic significance disproportionate to its otherwise unremarkable character, and making it a natural chokepoint for forces moving toward Terra during the latter years of the civil war.

The system became the setting for a sustained series of engagements, subsequently referred to as the Titandeath campaign, in which Loyalist formations, including detachments of the Legio Titanicus and supporting Imperial Army and Space Marine contingents, sought to deny the system to forces loyal to the Warmaster Horus. The fighting was distinguished by the heavy commitment of Titan maniples on both sides, whose clashes across the system’s worlds and orbital spaces caused destruction on a scale associated with few other theatres of the war, and by the attrition suffered by Legio forces that had, until then, been largely preserved for the defence of Terra itself.

The Beta Garmon campaign is understood to have concluded, at heavy cost to the forces engaged, in the period immediately preceding the Traitors’ advance on Terra, and it is generally treated in Horus Heresy narratives as a prelude that shaped the depleted state of Titan forces available for the subsequent defence of the Imperial Palace.
