Callinedes System

The Callinedes System, a star system of Segmentum Obscurus, was, on the eve of the Horus Heresy around 005.M31, the scene of a Great Crusade campaign to clear Ork forces from the region, prosecuted by the Iron Hands’ 52nd Expeditionary Fleet under Ferrus Manus with a supporting detachment of the Emperor’s Children under Fulgrim. Fighting in the system included the storming of the Ork-held deep orbital station DS191 and the subsequent retaking of Callinedes IV, though many Emperor’s Children, among them Saul Tarvitz and Lucius, were diverted to Isstvan III rather than joining the latter assault. Commander Vespasian of the Emperor’s Children is recorded as having protested the conduct of his Legion during the station fighting, and was killed by Fulgrim as a result.

It was also in the Callinedes System, aboard the Iron Hands flagship Fist of Iron, that Fulgrim sought to win Ferrus Manus to the cause of Horus. The meeting ended in violence: Ferrus Manus’s Morlock bodyguard was killed, and ships of the Emperor’s Children turned on the Iron Hands fleet before Fulgrim withdrew to Isstvan. Little else of the system, including its wider stellar and planetary character, is recorded.
