Darkmor
Darkmor is an Imperial shrine world, the site of the Massacre at Darkmor during the Age of the Dark Imperium. The world’s segmentum is not firmly recorded, and the surviving account of the massacre gives no specific year for the engagement.
The massacre began with a shared vision. Librarians of six of the Unforgiven Chapters independently scried, through the disturbances of the Great Rift, that a band of the Fallen would be drawn to Darkmor. When the warp storms that had long isolated the world unexpectedly subsided, each of the six Chapters despatched a force to the shrine world, converging there in pursuit of the same portent.
What the Unforgiven found was not an isolated band of the Fallen but a prepared trap. Darkmor’s population had already been slaughtered by daemons and Chaos Space Marines, who had been lying in wait for the Chapters’ arrival. Before the gathered companies could withdraw, the warp storms closed in again, sealing the world off and trapping them amid the carnage.
Of the roughly one thousand Unforgiven who had made landfall, fewer than a hundred escaped Darkmor, and only because they pursued a lone, hooded figure believed to be Cypher to a hidden teleportation device. The Angels of Vengeance, the Consecrators and the Guardians of the Covenant were each named among the Chapters that lost multiple companies in the fighting. The scale of the defeat was such that later accounts set Darkmor’s losses alongside those of the Forgotten Wars.
