Massacre at Darkmor

The Massacre at Darkmor was fought on the shrine world of Darkmor between six Chapters of the Unforgiven and ambushing forces of Chaos. The battle is placed in the Age of the Dark Imperium (M41–M42); a more precise date and the segmentum in which Darkmor lies are not recorded. The Unforgiven are the Chapters descended from the Dark Angels, bound by a shared oath to hunt down the Fallen, renegade Dark Angels who escaped judgement after an ancient rebellion. The action arose from a warning read in the warp. Librarians, the psychic adepts of each Chapter, scried that the widening of the Great Rift would cause one or more of the Fallen to be cast onto Darkmor. The warp storms that had isolated the region had temporarily subsided, allowing detachments from all six Chapters to converge on the shrine world in time to intercept them. By the time the Space Marines made planetfall, daemons and Chaos Space Marines already lying in wait had slaughtered Darkmor’s population. As the Unforgiven began their assault, the warp storms returned without warning, sealing the world and closing off any line of retreat. The Angels of Vengeance, the Consecrators and the Guardians of the Covenant each committed several companies to the fighting; the identities of the other three Chapters present are not recorded. Trapped amid the resurgent storms, the successor Chapters suffered losses unmatched since the Forgotten Wars, an earlier and costly chapter in the Unforgiven’s long vigil. Of a combined force reckoned at around a thousand, fewer than a hundred escaped, and only by following the fugitive Cypher to a hidden teleportation device that carried them clear of the world.
