Gryphonne IV

Gryphonne IV was a Tempestus forge world of the Adeptus Mechanicus, seat of the eight-system Octad, until Hive Fleet Leviathan overran it in 998.M41. A forge world is an Imperial planet devoted to the industrial manufacture of war matériel; Gryphonne IV’s own contribution to that work included fielding the Titan legion Legio Gryphonicus, whose god-machines were built and crewed within the forge’s manufactoria.

The world’s defences were described as Mars-grade, a standard reserved for forge worlds central to the Imperium’s war-making capacity, yet they did not hold. Hive Fleet Leviathan, one of the largest tyranid incursions recorded in the late 41st millennium, broke the Octad and consumed Gryphonne IV in 998.M41, its assault falling within the same broad invasion window in which the hive fleet struck numerous Imperial holdings across the affected sectors. Eight and a half billion workers are recorded as remaining on the planet when it fell.

Evacuation was partial. Surviving personnel withdrew to the neighbouring world of Tolkhan, carrying with them a portion of the forge’s data-cores and a small number of Titans salvaged from Legio Gryphonicus, so that a fragment of Gryphonne IV’s knowledge and war engines endured the loss of the world itself. The fate of the Titan legion beyond this exodus is not recorded with certainty.

The forge world’s legacy nonetheless outlasted its fall. Patterns of war matériel originating on Gryphonne IV continued to appear on Imperial Guard tanks long after the world’s destruction, a material link between a lost forge and the wider Imperium’s continuing capacity to wage war. Within the Orrery’s map and timeline, Gryphonne IV stands as one marker along Hive Fleet Leviathan’s path through the Imperium in 998.M41, with Tolkhan and the surviving Legio Gryphonicus Titans the clearest threads connecting the present era to the world that once anchored the Octad.
