Lion’s Gate spaceport

Lion’s Gate spaceport was a principal orbital spaceport of Terra, sited by the Lion’s Gate of the Imperial Palace’s Ultimate Wall. As one of the great spaceports ringing the Throneworld, it handled a substantial share of the traffic moving between Terra’s surface and the vessels holding orbit above it, and its proximity to the Imperial Palace made it of considerable strategic value.

During the Siege of Terra, the spaceport became one of the most fiercely contested sites of the war, as the forces of Warmaster Horus sought to seize a foothold from which to strike directly at the Imperial Palace. Assault elements of the Sons of Horus fought through the complex against Imperial Fists and allied defenders in protracted void, orbital, and close-quarters combat that reduced much of the facility to ruin.

The struggle for Lion’s Gate spaceport is remembered as emblematic of the wider siege’s brutality, a battle of attrition fought amid burning gantries and collapsed landing fields rather than open manoeuvre. Its defence, alongside that of the Ultimate Wall’s other approaches, formed part of the broader effort that held Terra against the Warmaster’s assault until relief could arrive.
