Monarchia

Monarchia was the capital city of Khur, raised by its people as a monument to the Emperor and the teachings of the Word Bearers Legion. Built during the world’s compliance to the Great Crusade, the city’s temples and monuments celebrated the Emperor as a divine figure, reflecting the faith that Primarch Lorgar had cultivated among the Khurian population.

Circa 005.M31, the Emperor travelled to Khur, accompanied by Roboute Guilliman and elements of the Ultramarines Legion, to confront Lorgar over the unsanctioned cult of worship he had fostered there. In the episode later known as the Reproving, Imperial forces razed Monarchia to ruin while Lorgar was made to kneel before the assembled host, the Emperor rebuking him for elevating faith above the Imperial Truth.

The destruction of Monarchia proved a formative humiliation for Lorgar, who withdrew in its aftermath to reconsider his Legion’s purpose. The episode is widely regarded as a significant contributing factor in the Word Bearers’ subsequent embrace of Chaos worship and their leading role in the Horus Heresy.
