Septius VII

Septius VII is an Imperial hive world whose planetary defences were seized and misdirected by the renegade known as Cypher. Its segmentum is not firmly recorded.

Cypher reached Septius VII in the guise of an Inquisitor named Arnuldus, a false identity that gave him authority over the planet’s military apparatus. Having taken command of its defences under that pretence, he directed them to disastrous effect rather than to the world’s protection. The hive world’s order collapsed under the weight of this betrayal, though the precise date of these events is not recorded.

The collapse exposed the planetary governor and his ruling system to judgement: both were found corrupt and unjust by those who rose against them. Even so, the governor had been the rightful ruler of Septius VII, and the world’s tithes to the Imperium had been honoured under his rule, a detail that complicates any simple reading of the uprising that followed.

That uprising gave the citizens of Septius VII a brief span of freedom from the old order. It did not last. A suppression followed, and the world was returned to Imperial rule, closing the episode much as it had found the planet, though not before Cypher’s misdirection had been exposed as its hidden cause.

Septius VII stands in the wider record chiefly through this one episode: a hive world whose fate was shaped less by war between recognised powers than by a single infiltrator’s deception of its own defenders, with consequences that outlasted the brief freedom it produced.
