The Elysian Gate

The Elysian Gate is a Dark Age warp-door at Uranus, a three-thousand-kilometre parabolic aperture that allows ships to bypass Sol’s Mandeville points. These are the designated points from which vessels ordinarily enter and leave the warp.

Rogal Dorn made the gate the pivot of the Second Sphere of the Solar defences. During the Solar War, Perturabo destroyed the gun-grid known as the Eyes of the Old God and captured the gate. Traitor ships later passed through the same aperture while fleeing Terra and encountered Ultramarines hunters there.

The gate’s importance rests on two functions recorded in its history. It gave ships a means of crossing Sol’s approaches without using the Mandeville points, and it served as a fixed position around which a defensive line was organised. Both the Loyalist and Traitor forces used it during the Solar War and its aftermath.
