Perturabo
Primarch of the IV Legion, Lord of Iron, Daemon Prince
Also known as The Lord of Iron, The Hammer of Olympia
Homeworld: Olympia
Perturabo is the primarch of the Iron Warriors, the IV Legion of Space Marines, also called the Lord of Iron and the Hammer of Olympia, and since the end of the Horus Heresy a daemon prince of Chaos. Cast from Terra as an infant, he was found on Olympia climbing the mountains below the city-state of Lochos, whose tyrant, Dammekos, adopted him. He became the foremost engineer and siege commander of Olympia’s warring cities while keeping apart from his foster family, save his foster sister Calliphone. When the Emperor of Mankind reached Olympia, Perturabo submitted to him, deposed Dammekos and took command of the IV Legion, which he subjected to decimation after reviewing its record.
In the Great Crusade the Iron Warriors became the Imperium’s principal siege and garrison Legion, a role Perturabo resented because it scattered his warriors among countless citadels, and his rivalry with Rogal Dorn of the Imperial Fists hardened into lasting enmity. In 999.M30 he led the costly Sak’trada Deeps Campaign against the Hrud, in which a temporal shockwave devastated much of his fleet. Learning soon afterwards that Olympia had risen in revolt, he returned and purged the world city by city; some five million Olympians died and the survivors were enslaved. Horus praised the act, and Perturabo swore loyalty to the Warmaster.
At Isstvan V the Iron Warriors were among the four Legions that turned on the loyalist relief force in the Drop Site Massacre. Perturabo then commanded the Iron Warriors fleet against the Imperial Fists Retribution Fleet at Phall and personally broke the Imperial Fists garrison of Hydra Cordatus. Drawn by Fulgrim into the Eye of Terror, he was betrayed on the crone world Iydris when Fulgrim ascended to daemonhood. Escaping through the singularity at the Eye’s heart, he emerged over Tallarn, virus-bombed the world and searched beneath it for the Black Oculus until Horus ordered him to withdraw. Sent to bring Angron to the muster at Ullanor, he learned of Angron’s whereabouts at Sarum and subdued him on Deluge.
In the Solar War he took the Uranus and Jupiter defensive spheres. On Terra he led the assault that took the Lion’s Gate Spaceport and then directed the Traitor war effort from the surface until, ordered to disperse his Legion and cede command to Mortarion, he withdrew the Iron Warriors from the Siege. After Horus’s death he crushed a Word Bearers enterprise on the Neptunian moon Laomedeia, then lured the Imperial Fists into the Eternal Fortress on Sebastus IV in the battle known as the Iron Cage, after which he was raised to daemon prince. From the Eye of Terror he rules the daemon world Medrengard and directs the Iron Warriors’ wars; after the opening of the Great Rift he fought Mortarion’s Death Guard on Dysactis in the War of Rust and Ruin.
