Uranus

Uranus is an uninhabitable ice giant in the Sol system, notable for the Elysian Gate, a Dark Age warp-door that bypasses the system’s Mandeville points. A Mandeville point is a location at which vessels may enter or leave the warp; the gate allows transit that does not depend on them. The planet’s importance is therefore strategic rather than residential.

Rogal Dorn designated the surrounding region as his Second Sphere. During the Solar War, Perturabo assaulted the Elysian Gate and captured it, and his forces held it until the Scouring.

Some ten millennia later, Indomitus Fleet Quintus mustered at Uranus. The fleet lost ships there when the Embrace of Fire detonated above the planet’s cloud-tops. The gate’s standing as a strategic asset rests on the access it affords to Sol without recourse to the Mandeville points.
