The Doom of Malan’tai

The Doom of Malan’tai is a Tyranid Zoanthrope that feeds on souls rather than flesh and consumed the population of Craftworld Malan’tai. It is associated with the loss of that Eldar craftworld in the aftermath of Hive Fleet Naga.

After Eldar forces repulsed Hive Fleet Naga, a dying bioship released a final spore-cluster into Craftworld Malan’tai. The defenders searched for the conspicuous Tyranid creatures and overlooked a soul-feeding organism moving through the craftworld’s Infinity Circuit. It consumed the dead and then the living, until the craftworld was an empty shell and the creature had become close to invulnerable. No confirmed sighting has been recorded since.

Neurothropes are comparable Tyranid organisms, but the Doom is distinguished by the scale of its feeding. Iyanden narrowly survived a similar hunger, whereas Malan’tai did not. The craftworld’s name remains the principal record of the event.
