Epidemius

Herald of Nurgle, Tallyman

Also known as The Tallyman, Epidemius the Tallyman

Epidemius, the Tallyman of Nurgle, is a Plaguebearer Herald who records every infection, death and symptom in the service of the Chaos god. He travels on a palanquin of Nurglings and carries an endless scroll on which the record is kept. His patience outlasts civilisations, and the record serves so that Nurgle’s Garden does not forget.

Wherever Epidemius disembarks, the recorded figures for sickness and mortality worsen by design. He does not need to win a battle outright, since the illness that follows an engagement can achieve the same result. His activity is a matter of methodical accounting rather than of open assault.

Imperial seers regard Epidemius with particular hostility, because a named and identifiable figure is harder to dismiss than an anonymous pestilence. Nurgle favours him because he keeps the record that the god’s domain requires. The tally is never completed, so it serves both as a record and as an instrument of the plague itself.
